Traumatic and vascular brain damage

The neurological rehabilitation teams specialise in the treatment of people with traumatic brain injuries resulting from accidents. In the early stages immediately after the accident, changes in consciousness and personality, dysphagia and communicative dysfunctions, impairments in motor coordination and cognitive dysfunction may be present, so that the patient will require support in performing activities of daily living. Severely injured patients can be treated with early rehabilitative measures on our intensive care unit, especially if their respiratory and cardiovascular function are still impaired. Rehabilitation is then continued by specialists in the rehabilitation team, who carry out goal-oriented therapeutic measures with the patient. This also facilitates the successful reintegration of some patients in the work environment by means of appropriate work-related training measures.
